Summer School an Ulster Scots Success

A fantastic week with a wide range of activities was enjoyed from 15th until 19th August in Carleton Street Orange Hall.

On Monday, we where joined by Charles from the Ulster Scots Community Network, where we looked at the Plantation, Ulster Scots Heritage , surnames and where we come from. On Tuesday the children enjoyed a Lambeg and Fife workshop under the guidance of Billy Hill.

On Wednesday, Matt from the Ulster Scots Agency held an Ulster Scots language workshop which was throughly enjoyed with some singing included to help. In the afternoon, the children enjoyed some baking and making tasty Ulster Scots traditional cooking.

On Thursday the group enjoyed a trip to the Ulster American Folk Park. They had a fantastic day with lots of exploring and learning as they set back in time.

A busy week finished on Friday, as the children completed their arts and crafts projects they had been working on throughout the week. For their project they each designed and made their own shield. The day finished with lots of fun and games.

The Summer School was kindly funded by the Ulster Scots Agency. A photo album is available on our Facebook page with lots of pictures of all the activities.
