Digital preservation is a very hot topic in the world of heritage, culture and memory institutions. Many people are talking about it and some organisations have a strategy in place and are in the process of digitally preserving their assets in some shape or form. There are however a large number of people who are just starting out and who are trying to get to grips with the basics of digital preservation. You may be a volunteer in an organisation which has an interest in heritage, or you may be the custodian, collector, or just curious about heritage. For many of us heritage and items or places that are important legacies of the past form part of our lives or work. From family photographs and heirlooms to being entrusted with a heritage building or  organisational assets we often feel a responsibility to preserve them. This course has been designed with people like you in mind. If you are asking yourself  “what exactly is digital preservation?” and “where do I start?” and “what do I need to do to be able to say that I’m on the road to digital preservation ?” – and many more questions besides, then this is the course for you.
